2012

On April 14, the Open International Taekwon-do ITF tournament “RIGA CUP 2012” was held at the Olympic Center. The tournament is organized by the Latvian Taekwondo Federation ITF with the support of the Riga City Council. About 130 athletes from 13 clubs from Latvia, Estonia, Russia and Belarus took part in the Tournament. Competitions were held in several age groups, among Children, Youth, Juniors and Adults, in the sections “TUL” and “SPARRING”.

It was noteworthy that at the Tournament “RIGA CUP 2012”, for the first time in the history of Taekwon-do ITF, new rules for conducting competitions in the section of complex technical exercises “TUL” were introduced. President of the Latvian Taekwon-Do Federation Master Vyacheslav Semenkov (7 Dan) in his welcoming speech at the opening ceremony of the Tournament noted that “……. we united men and women in the TUL section into one group, enabling athletes and female athletes to compete together, thereby increasing the efficiency and adding spice to the competition in the TUL section”.

Athletes of the Belarusian Taekwon-do League won the most medals, and they got the 1st degree cup – the main prize of the tournament. 2nd place in the team standings for fighters from the Riga LTCS club. In third place are fighters from the TKD club in Pärnu.

Tournament “RIGA CUP 2012” gives a good opportunity to gain experience of International meetings for fighters of all Latvian clubs, not only the Latvian Taekwon-Do Federation, but also other sports organizations that are showing increasing interest in the Tournament “RIGA CUP 2012”.
